This video presents an interview with Hugh Broughton, the Director of Hugh Broughton Architects – an award winning British architectural practice specializing in the commercial and public sectors. Unusually, the firm also has designed a number of science research stations in the extreme cold environment of Antarctica. Broughton graduated from Edinburgh University and established his firm in 1995. Since its foundation, Broughton’s practice has developed a strong reputation for well-considered contemporary design. Projects designed by Broughton have won awards from the RIBA, the Civic Trust and the International Property Federation. In 2002 the practice was runner up in the prestigious Building Awards Young Architectural Practice of the Year. More recently the practice has won a string of international design competitions most notably the RIBA competition for Maidstone Museum, the design of the Spanish Antarctic Base and the RIBA International competition for the design of Halley VI Antarctic Research Station.
